About SMP

1) to maintain, keep in existence, keep going, prolong
2) to keep supplied with necessities, provide for
3) to support
4) to strengthen

Several months ago a new community organization was formed in Menlo Park that seeks to inform and educate Menlo Park residents about a wide variety of local issues facing our community.  Sustainable Menlo Park (SMP) is a non-profit organization that believes in the words of Thomas Jefferson that “education is the foundation of Democracy”.  By engaging the community on matters of public policy, SMP’s mission is to foster an informed citizenry who will promote sensible planning and good government in Menlo Park for years to come.

SMP sponsors meetings usually on the third Wednesday of every month at which speakers present relevant and timely topics that SMP believes are of specific interest to residents of Menlo Park.  Over the past few months, SMP members have enjoyed hearing from several current City Council Members, a local real estate developer, the Business Development Manager of the City of Menlo Park, the new Community Engagement Manager for Menlo Park, and the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula.

Additional speakers have and will include:

SMP is still in the formative stages.  We are assembling an exciting and eclectic Board of Directors that already includes members from the technology and science community, the finance world, Menlo Park business-owners, and real estate experts.  SMP’s objective is to attract broad representation from many fields of interest with membership open to all.

If you are interested in attending a meeting  or learning more about SMP, please contact Chuck Kinney, Chairman of SMP and past Menlo Park Council Member, at sustainablemenlopark@gmail.com.
